Falling for Fall: Bucket List

My personal fall list of must-dos

Now that October is over and Thanksgiving is just a little over a week away, I've been looking over all the fun things I've done this fall. There are so many great fall activities out there, so here's my top 5 list of favorite fall things to do...

Top Five Must-Do Things for Fall

1. Go to a Pumpkin Patch Is there really anything more iconically fall than picking out your own pumpkin straight off the vine? I think not! Going to the patch with your close friends or a special someone really helps you get in the spirit- with hayrides, corn mazes, apple cider, and more pumpkins than you could possibly carve, what's not to love?! Plus, the warm colors and natural lighting make for some great photo-ops with your favorite people.

2. Play in the Leaves I know this sounds kind of childish, but what's the harm in that?! There's something about jumping into a pile of crisp fallen leaves that makes you feel so nostalgic, and it makes for some great photos, too! If you're going to take photos, I advise going in the late afternoon, when the sun isn't as high in the sky- that way you can capture that golden fall lighting. And since these fall beauties will only be here for a short time, you might as well enjoy them to the fullest!

3. Drink a PSL in a Spooky Mickey Mug

I am not ashamed to admit that I love a good pumpkin spice latte! Whether you get one at Starbucks, your local coffee shop, or made at home, fall isn't fall without at least on PSL. And I enjoyed several in my Mickey ghost mug from Disneyland (it says "Boo to You!" on the back- how cute is that?!)

4. Go on a Fall Hike

Hiking can be amazing in any season, but a fall hike can be truly stunning. I chose to hike around Whatcom Falls in near Bellingham, WA. The falls, the trees, and the stone bridges were so beautiful in the light, and even the land smells different in the fall versus the summer.

5. Go on a Mountain Getaway

The mountains in fall are SO beautiful! With the altitude, you'll find a whole abundance of colorful foliage at your fingertips. I took a weekend away in Leavenworth, WA- a small, Bavarian-style village nestled in the Cascade Mountains- and with Oktoberfest in full-swing, it was a fabulous fall weekend.

6. Have a Harry Potter Marathon

As a Ravenclaw, I do prefer to read the books over the movies (which I also did this fall), but since reading all seven books in a season can be quite a commitment, watching the movies also gets the job done. Of course, once you finish those, there's still Hocus Pocus, Beetlejuice, Nightmare Before Christmas, and every iconic Stephen King or slasher film on Netflix.

7. Take a Fall-Inspired HobbyLobbyChallenge

I'm a fan of a good internet challenge, and this might be my fave. Grab your camera, some friends, and some plastic flowers at your local craft store and make MAGIC! Flowers with golds, oranges, reds, plums, and darks greens work best for fall.

8. Visit a Corn Maze

Going through a corn maze is another iconically fall tradition. Whether you like yours haunted with zombies, creepy children, or masked men with chainsaws, or spook-free and relaxing, a corn maze makes for a great time out with friends, or a spooky date!

9. Decorate Your Home

Anyone who's ever visited my apartment knows I LOVE to decorate and make my space my own! Though my home is decorated all year for something, the holidays are truly when my interior design skills shine. Take your house from drab to fab with some pumpkins, string lights, fall scented candles, and some halloween throw pillows to get a classy fall vibe going.

10. Make a Halloween Costume

I LOVE to dress up, but I never find what I'm looking for in store-bought costumes. I usually always make my own, and you totally can too! Head to your local thrift shop and use Pinterest for inspiration if you need. My very talented friend and roommate helped me put this look together- the dress was made from scratch out of a thrifted tablecloth, and we had the wig, necklace, and fur at home already! I bought custom fangs that fit to my teeth from Spirit Halloween, and- since I'm an actor- already had an extensive makeup kit that included the fake blood. In all, this costume cost me about 6 bucks- can you believe it?!

Hope you all have an amazing rest of your fall- stay tuned for some updates for Thanksgiving and Christmas in the next couple of weeks!

XO,

Katie
